Journal of Asian Social Science Research (JASSR), Volume 8, Number 1 (2026), brings together seven studies examining voice, vulnerability, and uneven governance across contemporary Asia. Covering Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Cambodia, India, and South Asia–Gulf connections, the issue explores multilingual protest at Dhaka University, restrictions on Afghan girls’ education, Urdu and diaspora soft power, the experiences of Rohingya women, postpartum depression in urban India, decentralised waste governance in Cambodia, and the consequences of aid withdrawal in rural Bangladesh. Across different methods and settings, the articles show how political authority and social inequality are produced through educational systems, public spaces, refugee administration, families, local governments, civil-society networks, and development institutions. The issue offers grounded evidence for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners concerned with contentious politics, gender, public health, migration, decentralisation, and development transitions in Asia.
