Journal History

JASSR was launched in 2019 by the Centre for Asian Social Science Research (CASSR), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung as an open, peer-reviewed platform for scholarship on contemporary societies in Asia and work connected to Asia. From its early years, JASSR has prioritized rigorous editorial practice—maintaining a double-blind review, refreshing the editorial board, standardizing workflows and ethics policies, and strengthening digital discoverability to support wider readership and impact.

JASSR received SINTA 3 national accreditation in 2020. Building on this foundation, the journal is consolidating quality assurance and internationalization and is preparing applications to major international indexes (e.g., Scopus) in 2026.
