JASSR checks all submissions with Turnitin (or an equivalent similarity-detection tool). Manuscripts showing evidence of plagiarism or self-plagiarism are rejected; works with an overall similarity score above ~20% are normally returned or declined before peer review. If a breach is identified after acceptance or publication, the editorial team may withdraw acceptance, issue a correction or retraction, and notify relevant parties.
JASSR upholds international standards of academic integrity. Plagiarism is the use of another’s ideas, information, or wording without proper acknowledgment—including unattributed paraphrase and the reuse of one’s own previously published text (self-plagiarism). Intent does not remove responsibility: even inadvertent plagiarism is a serious violation.
Authors must cite a source whenever specific information is taken from it (e.g., names, dates, places, statistics, distinctive arguments). Common knowledge—widely available facts found in standard references—does not require citation (for example, that Indonesia has the world’s largest Muslim population).
When building on another scholar’s theory, method, or interpretive claim, cite the original source—even if you extend or modify it—and then explain your contribution. When reproducing an author’s exact words, use both quotation marks and a citation. As a rule of thumb, strings of about four or more identical words should be treated as a quotation; citation alone is insufficient. Paraphrasing must substantially rephrase the source in your own wording and structure and still be accompanied by a citation.
JASSR treats academic integrity with the utmost seriousness and reserves the right to decline, withdraw, correct, or retract any work that violates these standards.
